Wake Forest School of Medicine adds Doctor of Medical Science
Wake Forest is one of the country’s top medical and PA schools. It will now award experienced PAs with a Doctor of Medical Science degree.
The asynchronous, online program will take students 24 months to finish and will focus on research, education, and leadership.
The Wake Forest DMSc boasts a multidisciplinary faculty from the Wake Forest University Schools of Medicine, Business, and Professional Studies.
The Doctor of Medical Science degree is designed for PAs. It is intended for those seeking the professional growth necessary to advance their role. It helps to expand their impact. The program aims to “enable graduates to lead within diverse health care settings and serve their communities.”
As in all other Doctor of Medical Science programs, the Wake Forest DMSC will have a required capstone project. This project will focus on addressing current gaps in clinical, educational, or health systems.
Three Available Tracks with the DMSc
There will be 3 tracks within the DMSc
- Leadership – For PAs interested in clinical management, administrative, and executive leadership.
- Research – This is for those interested in PA scholarship or clinical research.
- Medical Education – For PAs interested in PA medical education.
Wake Forest DMSc Curriculum
The core curriculum of the 35-credit Doctor of Medical Science at Wake Forest includes the following courses:

PAs must have a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience to apply. The total cost of the Wake Forest Doctor of Medical Science program is approximately $45,000.
